Jēkabpils Hospital has opened a pharmacy to provide medicines, including prescription drugs, LSM reported, citing the Jēkabpils municipality. The pharmacy at the outpatient clinic of Jēkabpils Regional Hospital will operate until 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The municipality is also working to restore the water supply. Water service has been restored at the pumping station on Zvanītāju Street.
Two mobile access points are available for charging phones and power banks, and toilets have been installed there. The municipality hopes to provide internet access at the points soon so residents can contact relatives or report that they are safe.
Dry toilets will also be installed at nine locations in the city’s neighbourhoods.
Municipality chairman Raivis Ragainis said mobile communications operators were working actively, but service remained more limited on the right bank of the Daugava than on the left bank.
As communications are restored, the municipality is receiving new reports of fallen trees and damaged energy infrastructure.
One petrol station is operating in the city. The municipality has contacted its management to determine how long fuel supplies will last and is working to connect other petrol stations to generators.
Some shops are operating on generators and selling water and food.
The city lost access to water on Sunday after a power outage stopped the sewage system. The water supply was also suspended to prevent further problems when water and sewage services are restarted.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and stay indoors while the wind subsides, as hazards such as broken branches caught in trees and power lines remain. Vehicle traffic is possible in Jēkabpils and across the municipality after wind-felled trees were removed from the main roads.
The mobile access points are operating at Jēkabpils Folk House and Krustpils Culture Centre. Until the water supply is restored, residents can collect drinking water from public taps.
