Two people drown in lake in Jēkabpils municipality

Two people drowned in a lake in Jēkabpils municipality on Saturday, LSM reported, citing information obtained by the LETA news agency from the State Fire and Rescue Service.
After 3 p.m., rescuers were called to the municipality, where two people were reported to be drowning. They searched the lake and found both people, handing them over to medics, who pronounced them dead.
Most of the service’s resources during the previous 24 hours were deployed to deal with damage caused by the storm, a task that was still continuing. No major or significant fires were reported.
On Saturday morning, rescuers also assisted a person who had become lost in a forest in Ludza municipality. The person was located using an audible signal from a specialised vehicle and escorted out of the forest.
At about 1:30 p.m., a similar call was received from Roja Parish in Talsi municipality. Rescuers also found that person and escorted them out of the forest.
