Inmate attacks prison officer in Vilnius, injures face

An inmate at Vilnius prison physically assaulted a senior officer, injuring their face, the Lithuanian Prison Service reported on Friday, according to LRT.

The inmate, identified as R. Ž., struck the officer in the face with his hand after leaving his cell. In response, authorities used special measures—including an electric pulse device, combat grappling techniques, and handcuffs—to stop the attack and ensure the safety of staff and others in the facility.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched, and the circumstances of the incident, as well as workplace safety protocols, will be reviewed. The inmate will be added to a registry of individuals prone to violent behaviour.
