Scammers trick elderly woman out of 114,000 euros in Vilnius
An 81-year-old woman in Vilnius was scammed out of 114,000 euros after fraudsters posing as police officers and bank employees convinced her to sell her apartment and withdraw all her money, LRT reports.
The woman, born in 1945, contacted Vilnius’s 5th Police Commissariat on Tuesday at 10:12 AM, stating that between May 28 and July 1 at 10:00 AM, unknown individuals called her at home, speaking in Russian. They deceived her into selling her apartment and transferring all funds from her bank account. She then handed the cash to an unknown man who arrived at her home.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the fraud and other potential crimes.
