Early parliamentary elections proposed for Nalšia North constituency
Early elections for a Seimas member in the single-mandate Nalšia North constituency are proposed to be held on November 8, according to a report by LRT.
The draft resolution to this effect was registered on Monday by Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas.
The need for early elections arose following the death of Jevgenijus Šuklinas, the parliament member elected in that constituency. In early June, the Central Electoral Commission revoked Šuklinas’ Seimas mandate after his death on May 28.
Šuklinas was elected to the Seimas in 2024 with the Liberal Movement party and was a member of its faction. He had previously served on the Visaginas Municipal Council and acted as interim mayor. He was also a well-known athlete, a canoeist, a participant in the 2012 London Olympic Games, and a medalist in world and European championships.
