Lithuanian border guards detain four illegal migrants at Belarus border
Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported on Monday that four illegal migrants were detained at the border with Belarus over the past week.
Latvian border guards turned back 97 migrants on Sunday, while Polish authorities reported no detections on Saturday.
This year, Lithuania has denied entry to 780 illegal migrants. In 2025, there were over 1,600 recorded attempts to cross into the country from Belarus, compared to 1,002 in 2024.
Since the start of the migration crisis triggered by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,000 foreigners from entering the country illegally. The influx of migrants into the EU’s eastern members via Belarus began in 2021, with Western officials accusing Minsk of orchestrating the crisis.
