Gintaras Goda sworn in as Lithuania’s Supreme Court justice

Gintaras Goda was sworn in as a justice of the Supreme Court of Lithuania (LAT) in a ceremony at the Seimas on Thursday, LRT reports.

Parliament approved his appointment on Tuesday, with 72 lawmakers voting in favour, 23 against, and five abstaining.

Goda previously served as a justice of the Constitutional Court from 2017 to 2026 and as its president from 2023 to 2026. His term ended in March this year. Prior to that, he held positions as a justice at the Supreme Court, the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania, and in various roles at the Court of Appeal of Lithuania, the Ministry of Justice, and the Seimas Chancellery. He has also been a member of the Central Electoral Commission and a research fellow at the Law Institute.

Justices of the Supreme Court of Lithuania are appointed and dismissed by the Seimas upon the president’s proposal.
