Bauska voters turn out in large numbers for early voting

More than 600 voters in Bauska Municipality have cast their ballots early for Latvia’s 15th parliamentary elections, LSM reported, citing Zemgale Regional Television. Early voting is available at all 933 polling stations across Latvia for the first time, and the municipality’s 23 stations have seen strong turnout in the first two days.

Bauska Municipality has more than 30,000 eligible voters. The largest polling station is in Iecava, where about 6,000 voters are registered.

Staff at the Iecava polling station increased the number of workers after turnout on the first day exceeded expectations. “We were surprised by the residents’ turnout yesterday, so we increased the number of staff working at the polling station today. We are ready,” said commission chair Jolanta Smeltere.

Power briefly went out on Tuesday morning, requiring staff to respond. Voters from outside the municipality also used the option to cast their ballots there. Kaspars, who said he was from Riga, explained that he chose the station because he wanted to vote for the Zemgale list.
