Four residents of Vilnius and Panevėžys lost a combined total of more than €76,000 in separate fraud schemes, Lithuanian police reported on Monday, as reported by the BNS news agency.

In one case, a 54-year-old woman from Vilnius reported losing €10,000 on an online investment platform last summer. A year later, unidentified individuals contacted her online, claiming they could help recover her lost funds through further investments. She was defrauded of an additional €8,000.

Another Vilnius resident, a 66-year-old woman, was targeted at home by callers posing as bank employees and police officers. They tricked her into handing over her payment card and stole over €7,000 from her bank account. Days later, an unknown man visited her home, convincing her to give him nearly €4,000 in cash.

A 62-year-old woman from Vilnius also fell victim to a similar scam in late May, losing €13,700 after callers impersonating bank staff and police deceived her.

In Panevėžys, a 87-year-old man was defrauded of €32,700 by a man and woman posing as a police officer and bank employee, respectively.

Police have launched pre-trial investigations into the fraud cases. The total financial loss across the four victims exceeds €76,000.
