Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda was unable to verify whether his personal data was exposed in a major leak due to ongoing technical failures in the national Registrų Centras (Centre of Registers) self-service system, his office confirmed to public broadcaster LRT on Monday.

“In response to your inquiry, we inform you that this morning the president attempted to log into the Centre of Registers’ self-service portal but was unable to do so due to the system’s instability,” the Presidential Palace stated. “The president intends to check again when time allows and the system functions properly.”

The Centre of Registers has assured the public that residents will have “as much time as needed” to verify whether their data was compromised.

Last Friday, Lithuania’s Prosecutor General’s Office launched a pre-trial investigation into the suspected leak of over 600,000 property register records from the Centre of Registers, with estimated damages exceeding €111,000. The breach was first detected in early April, but legal restrictions tied to the ongoing probe delayed public disclosure.

Former Centre of Registers director Adrijus Jusas, who resigned on Monday, claimed he had immediately notified the Ministry of Economy and Innovation and the National Crisis Management Centre. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas stated he was informed of the leak during a National Security Committee meeting last Wednesday.

Prime Minister Ingrida Ruginienė and Economy Minister Edvinas Grikšas had called for Jusas’ resignation following the revelations. Conservative leader Laurynas Kasčiūnas suggested Russia’s GRU military intelligence may have been behind the cyber operation.

Since Monday evening, residents have been able to check via the Centre of Registers’ website whether their personal data was exposed in the breach.
