Scammers trick residents out of nearly €33,000 in Lithuania

Fraudsters have swindled nearly €33,000 from residents in Vilnius, Panevėžys, and Klaipėda, Lithuanian police reported Monday, citing a surge in phone and online scams.

In Klaipėda, a man reported losing €17,500 after responding to a fake online advertisement for goods between October 2025 and May 2026, according to the Klaipėda County Chief Police Commissariat.

Vilnius police received two separate reports on Monday. In one case, a 37-year-old man was deceived by callers posing as bank employees and officers, handing over €1,675 in cash to an unknown person on May 19. In another, a 54-year-old man lost €9,698 after entering his banking details on a fraudulent website on May 24.

Panevėžys police also recorded a case where a man reported a €3,999 loss on Monday after accessing a fake bank page and having funds withdrawn from his account.

Pre-trial investigations into the fraud cases have been launched.
