Lithuanian independence signatory Zenonas Juknevičius laid to rest in Vilnius

The funeral of Zenonas Juknevičius, a signatory of Lithuania’s 1990 Act of Independence and a prominent legal figure, was held on Thursday, with his burial taking place at the Signatories’ Hill in Vilnius’ Antakalnis Cemetery, LRT reports.

Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their final respects as Juknevičius was laid to rest. He passed away on Tuesday at the age of 77.

Born in 1949 in Valdeikiai, Pasvalys District, Juknevičius graduated from Vilnius University in 1977 with a law degree. Throughout his career, he served as a judge at Šilutė District People’s Court, senior notary at Kupiškis State Notary Office, and investigator at Kupiškis District Prosecutor’s Office.

From 1987 to 1990, he was First Deputy Minister of Justice of the Lithuanian SSR, and in 1990, he temporarily led the Ministry of Justice for two years.
