Gabrielius Landsbergis appointed co-chair of Atlantic Council working group
Former Lithuanian foreign minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has been named co-chair of a working group at the US-based Atlantic Council think tank, state news agency ELTA reported on Monday.
Landsbergis will lead the group focused on Europe’s defence future alongside Christopher Cavoli, the former supreme allied commander of NATO forces in Europe. The Atlantic Council, a non-partisan organisation with ties to both major US political parties, specialises in security and defence policy, as well as economics, energy, and technology, shaping political strategies and decisions.
ELTA noted that Landsbergis previously served as Lithuania’s top diplomat under Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė’s government and led the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats party. He stepped down from both roles after the Social Democrats won the 2024 parliamentary elections.
