Vilnius district council removes agenda items on renaming streets named after disgraced cardinal

Henrikas Gulbinowiczius, street renaming, Vilnius DistrictThe Vilnius District Municipal Council has removed from its agenda discussions on renaming streets named after Cardinal Henrikas Gulbinowiczius, who was sanctioned by the Vatican for child abuse, LRT reports.
The proposal to strike the items from the meeting’s agenda was submitted by Waldemaras Urbanas, a representative of the Polish Electoral Action–Union of Christian Families. The motion was supported by 19 council members, while nine voted against it.
Gulbinowiczius, a former archbishop of Vilnius, was found guilty of sexual abuse by the Vatican in 2021 and stripped of his clerical privileges. Streets bearing his name remain in several Lithuanian municipalities, including the Vilnius district.
