Lithuania recorded its first below-zero temperatures overnight, but daytime highs could reach 10 degrees Celsius on Saturday and temperatures are expected to stay above freezing in many places overnight Sunday, LRT reported.

Forecaster Simona Dalinkevičiūtė told LRT Radio that sub-zero temperatures were recorded across most of the country, particularly in the east. Parts of western Lithuania remained slightly above zero, with warmer conditions along the coast.

Clouds are expected to thicken on Saturday, with less sunshine and westerly winds of 7 to 12 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. The wind is expected to ease overnight into Sunday, when temperatures will be 0 to 5 degrees, and 6 to 8 degrees on the coast. Clouds will cover much of the country, but significant rain is not expected.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with some breaks possible only in western Lithuania. Temperatures will again reach 5 to 10 degrees. Monday is expected to be dry, with temperatures ranging from 1 degree below zero to 4 degrees overnight and reaching 4 to 9 degrees during the day.

Light, brief rain could return in some places from Tuesday, while nighttime frosts are expected across most of the country.
