Theatrum stages Pessoa-inspired production after reading his poetry

Theatrum will present “To Live Is to Be Another,” a production based on the work of Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa and created in collaboration with the Estonian Youth Theatre, ERR reports.

Directors and dramaturgs Maria Peterson and Mirko Rajas read Pessoa’s poetry and selected the themes and texts that spoke to them, shaping them into their own dramatic line.

“Some poems are brought to life visually, without words, so that the image, language, movement and action also speak,” Rajas told Aktuaalne kaamera.

Rajas described the production as a metaphysical inner world made visible, tracing one person’s journey from a state of unrest in search of peace. Peterson said Pessoa’s writing lets thoughts flow and invites readers to recognise themselves in them.

Epp Kubu designed the production, Maria Solei Järvet is the choreographer, and Ramuel Tafenau performs live music. Performances will take place in Theatrum’s hall.
