Conference marks Valdas Adamkus’s 100th birthday and examines his legacy

LRT reported that a conference on former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus’s political and public legacy was being held at Vilnius Town Hall on Monday, as he turns 100.

Organised by Vilnius University and the Vilnius city municipality, the conference is examining Adamkus’s role in strengthening Lithuania’s international relations and shaping the country’s place in Europe.

Former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko are taking part, alongside Lithuanian and international representatives of politics, diplomacy and academia.

Professor Irena Vaišvilaitė is due to deliver a presentation. Discussions are also planned on presidential diplomacy, building a new Europe and Adamkus’s presidency. LRT said the conference could be watched live on the LRT PLIUS channel.
