Balvi Senior School plans to train 100 older people over two years, with computer skills and artificial intelligence courses in high demand, LSM reports.

The school is part of a programme offering free classes in digital skills, financial literacy and health literacy. Classes in Balvi meet twice a week, with up to 16 people attending each session.

Participants can also take part in physical activities. At a creative studio called Azote in central Balvi, seniors gather for Nordic walking and exercises focused on strength, mobility, flexibility and balance.

One participant said she had not had the time to learn computer skills while working and that computers felt unfamiliar to her generation. She had attended municipal digital courses and was now taking an artificial intelligence course to learn what the technology is.

Another participant said the classes and activities had helped her stay active and think positively. The school had been running for only a month when the LSM report was published.
