The Lithuanian Greens Party plans to urge the government to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and prepare for climate threats at a protest in Vilnius on Saturday, LRT reports.
The event is scheduled for noon outside the Government Palace. A performance called “Time Is Melting” will feature a temporary installation in Vinco Kudirkos Square, where melting ice and other symbolic elements will represent the effects of political delay on people’s safety and future.
Organisers will call on the government to set out specific actions for 2027, including funding and the institutions responsible for accelerating building renovation, improving access to public transport and preparing for climate emergencies. They will also seek specific climate policy goals for Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Party leader Ieva Budraitė said the melting ice would symbolise the time remaining to act. She said the climate crisis affects people’s health, homes and livelihoods, and called for political responsibility to match the scale of the threat.
The Lithuanian Greens said October 24 is internationally observed as a day to promote climate action and demand stronger decisions.
