Latvia’s public media organisation LSM is working to restore access to Latvijas Radio’s digital content after temporarily suspending some services over a critical cybersecurity threat, LSM reported. Live broadcasts of radio programmes are available, while other functions are being restored gradually.
LSM’s crisis and incident management group decided on Wednesday, October 21, to suspend several digital services, including the Latvijas Radio website and app, to protect its information systems. The LSM.lv portal was also taken offline, but returned after a few hours.
The Latvijas Radio app has been partly restored and can stream all radio channels. However, the broadcaster’s website relies on technology that needs substantial security upgrades. Restarting it before addressing the risks could put other LSM systems and services at risk, the organisation said.
LSM is developing a temporary solution to resume publishing new programmes and audio on demand. It is also working to restore full access to previously published audio on Replay.lv, LSM.lv, Bērnistaba and the Latvijas Radio app.
LSM Digital Solutions Provision Department head Edgars Neimanis said the organisation had mobilised technology specialists and resources to restore access as quickly as possible while maintaining security.
