Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten and his fiancé, Nicolas Keenan, are expecting a child, the couple announced on Instagram on Monday, LRT reports.
“Something very special is on its way to us. See you in 2027, little one,” they wrote. The couple said they were deeply grateful to the egg donor, Lisa, who will carry their child, and to their families. They also shared a photo of themselves holding an ultrasound image.
Jetten, 39, is the first openly gay prime minister of the Netherlands. Keenan, 29, is an Argentinian professional field hockey player and a member of Argentina’s national team.
The couple had planned to marry this year but postponed the wedding until next year because of the prime minister’s busy schedule. Jetten, a centre-left liberal, has led a three-party minority government since the start of this year.
The announcement drew many congratulations on Instagram, while hateful comments also appeared on other social media platforms. Jetten has previously said he receives threats daily because of his sexuality and reports them to police about once a week.
