Ugala presents Aime Unt’s early works to the public for the first time
Ugala Theatre has opened an exhibition of early works by theatre artist Aime Unt, bringing them before the public for the first time. The exhibition, “Ideas are in the Air,” is at the theatre’s gallery, ERR reported.
The show features paintings, drawings and theatre-design sketches made between 1965 and 1972. The works, most of them from the period when Unt studied at the Estonian State Institute of Art, have until now been held in her private collection.
Exhibition curator Liina Unt, the artist’s daughter, said the title was one of her mother’s favourite expressions and reflected her approach to creativity. Aime Unt saw theatre design as a complex process, from developing an idea to bringing it to the stage, Liina Unt said. She added that her mother believed ideas were always within reach if one could recognise them and look at the world from a different perspective.
On October 16, Aime Unt scholarships will be awarded after a performance of “The New Girl” at Ugala Theatre. The scholarships support high-school students who want to continue their studies and become professional artists, designers or architects.
The exhibition remains open in Ugala’s gallery until November 1.
