Lithuanian MEP Virginijus Sinkevičius has been re-elected vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Greens/European Free Alliance group for a second term, LRT reported on Wednesday.
Sinkevičius, who chairs the Democrats’ Union “For Lithuania,” was first elected to the post in June 2024, after the European Parliament elections.
“This is not only recognition for me, but also a responsibility,” he said. He cited security, energy independence, rising living costs and the competitiveness of European industry as challenges facing Europe, adding that decisions should deliver tangible benefits to people.
Sinkevičius said he would also seek to represent Lithuania and the region more strongly at the European level. He is currently a vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism.
From 2019 to 2024, he served as a European commissioner responsible for the environment, oceans and fisheries.
