Britain’s largest choral society, The Really Big Chorus, performed at the Estonia Concert Hall on Tuesday, raising money for people with dementia, ERR reported. The average age of the visiting singers was 74.
The choir has 8,000 members worldwide. Ninety-six singers from 10 countries joined Estonian musicians and soloists to perform works by Beethoven.
“We are not an audition choir. We welcome everyone,” said choir director and singer Tony Hastings, describing the group’s mission as offering singing opportunities to people of all ages.
Concert organiser Ulla Krigul said the event highlighted the importance of staying active and social in later life. Donations were collected for Elu Dementsusega, an Estonian non-profit supporting people with dementia.
The choir’s singer Dorothy said she was a little nervous before the performance, as she usually is. She noted that some English-speaking singers find singing in German challenging.
