Police arrest man who fled Vilnius court
Police arrested a Moroccan citizen accused of theft on Tuesday evening after he escaped from the courtyard of Vilnius City District Court, LRT reported. He was detained on Debesijos Street in Vilnius, Police Department representative Ramūnas Matonis told news agency ELTA.
The man left the courthouse at about 3.30pm after a hearing and escaped while court escort officers were leading him to their vehicle, police told the court. He had been brought to the hearing from Vilnius Prison.
The criminal case concerns Issam Toubali, who is accused of stealing 1,709.02 euros from a shop on May 24, 2026. Prosecutors allege that he entered the shop, unlocked a cash register in the sales area and took the money.
A court order issued on September 30 extended Toubali’s pre-trial detention for one month, from October 1 until November 1.
