Different ticketing systems can leave two passengers with tickets for the same seat on a regional bus, LSM reported. Passengers who buy online can choose a seat, while those buying from the driver cannot see which seats have already been reserved.

Viktors Zaķis, head of communications at the state-owned Road Transport Administration, said there was no single procedure for resolving such cases. He said the driver should help settle the dispute, including by asking one passenger to vacate the seat.

The administration’s longer-term aim is to introduce a unified ticketing system, under which all seats would likely be handled in the same way. Until then, Zaķis advised passengers to buy tickets in advance to secure both a place on the bus and a specific seat. Online booking can also prevent passengers from being left behind if the bus is full.
