A landowner in Jēkabpils municipality could halt a planned power cable project if historical property boundaries are confirmed, LSM reported. The proposed route in Dunava parish has sparked a dispute over land boundaries and restrictions on future use.

Utility company Sadales tīkls plans to remove a transformer and connect to another one via an underground cable. Landowner Rihards Skudra says the cable, which would be buried about one metre deep, would prevent him from digging a drainage ditch on low-lying land where the existing drainage system no longer works.

Sadales tīkls says the route was designed with cadastral boundaries in mind and will run alongside Skudra’s property without crossing it. Skudra disputes that account, saying boundary markers show the planned route within his land.

The company has advised him to check the boundaries with the State Land Service, noting that they may be based on older measurements. If Skudra confirms that the historical boundaries remain valid, he will have the right to stop the cable construction, according to the report.
