Nearly 100,000 euros has been donated for the treatment of three-year-old Jelgava resident Olīvija, LSM reported. Her family said they had been deeply moved by the support from other people.

Olīvija was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease this summer. She is the only child in Latvia with this diagnosis.

A medicine that can slow the progression of the disease is not included on the list of reimbursed medicines. The family needs 240,000 euros to begin treatment but does not have the money.

Hundreds of people have already contributed to the fundraising campaign so that the girl does not become paralysed. Donations for Olīvija’s treatment can be made through the Ziedot.lv portal.
