NAKS festival brings two international productions to Tallinn

The NAKS young audience theatre festival will bring two international productions to Tallinn on October 19, ERR reported. New Zealand dance company Le Moana will present Shel We, while Sweden’s Kompani Giraff will stage the contemporary circus production A Study of Losses.

Shel We was written, choreographed and performed by Tupua Tigafua. Trees, ghosts and deer appear on stage, along with plenty of mischief. Tigafua’s playful tribute to American writer and artist Shel Silverstein has a light and cheerful surface, but also contains a more personal story.

A sensitive classical music score turns the production into a tribute to Tigafua’s parents, family and the environment that has inspired the artist’s work over the years.

A Study of Losses is a magical journey combining aerial acrobatics and object manipulation. Realities collapse, buildings become ruins, cultural heritage is destroyed and animal species disappear.

Much of what is lost, however, remains unknown because it has not entered history or memory. The production explores this invisible sea of losses through circus, magic, movement and metaphorical stage language. Its music was created by American artist Beirut.

Both performances will take place on October 19, the first day of the NAKS festival, at Salme Cultural Centre in Tallinn.
