Lithuania declares yellow air threat over Vilnius region

LRT reported that the Lithuanian Armed Forces declared a probable air threat, marked yellow, after a drone may have been detected. The warning covers Vilnius, Trakai and Elektrėnai districts, as well as the city of Vilnius.

Residents who receive the warning are advised to identify a safe place or shelter. Anyone who sees a suspicious object should not approach it and should call 112. Residents should wait for further instructions.

A shelter is intended to provide short-term protection, for up to several hours, from direct and indirect fire during military aggression, including shrapnel, debris, blast waves and stray bullets.

Suitable shelters may include basements, underground car parks, garages, tunnels, designated rooms in residential and public buildings, and warehouses made of nonflammable materials.

After hearing the civil protection signal “Air threat,” residents are advised to go as quickly as possible to the nearest marked shelter or to a ditch, ravine, underground pedestrian crossing, tunnel or basement.

The yellow warning means residents should prepare a safe place or shelter and wait for further announcements. A red air threat means they should immediately go to a safe place or shelter. When there is no air threat, marked white, residents may leave their shelter.
