Tallinn literature festival brings classics and young writers to Kadriorg

Tallinn’s 10th Literature Street Festival is taking place in the Kadriorg district on Saturday, bringing together organisations involved in literature, ERR reported.
The main programme focuses on living classics and features an especially large number of young authors this year. The festival’s themes include the centenary of Truth and Justice, writers Viivi Luik and Betti Alver, the horse-drawn cart from The Milkman of Mäeküla, and a costume exhibition featuring characters created by Heljo Mänd.
The programme also includes an exhibition dedicated to Friedebert Tuglas’s Island of the End of the World, a prayer exhibition and a meditation area.
The traditional veranda concert will feature Mari Kalkun. Theatres will present their programmes for the new season, and the library bus Katariina Jee will be at the festival.
Children can visit two areas, one near the Tammsaare Museum and the other near the Vilde Museum. They can meet Sipsik and Klaus, the travelling dog friend of Lotte.
The festival will conclude with the Red Umbrella Journey, dedicated to Betti Alver’s 120th birth anniversary, followed by a poetry picnic beside the swan pond.
The picnic is dedicated to Viivi Luik, who will also attend and read poetry that is important to her. Kersti Kreismann will perform works by Luik, while Tõnis Mägi will provide the music.
