Estonian ceramics union showcases works by more than 40 artists

ERR reported that the Estonian Ceramists’ Union has opened its annual exhibition in Rakvere, featuring works by more than 40 ceramic artists at the Ukuaru music house gallery, which is dedicated to composer Arvo Pärt.

The exhibition, titled Silent Resonance, explores how ceramic form, mass, surface and hollow spaces affect the perception of sound and space.

Some works absorb sound through matte, porous or soft-edged surfaces, while others reflect it through glossy glaze, curved forms and hard planes. Rhythmic relief, fragmented geometry and uneven surfaces can also scatter sound.

Unlike a conventional ceramics exhibition, Silent Resonance invites visitors to engage physically with many of the works. Visitors can approach them, view them from different angles and discover details that become visible only at close range.

Several works may also be lightly touched or moved to create sound. The organisers describe this interactivity as a way of experiencing the space and the works through the body, including by noticing the direction of openings, the depth of internal hollows, surface roughness and glazed areas.

The exhibition features works by Mari Ait, Ingrid Allik, Kaja Altvee, Merike Hallik, Kadi Hektor, Elize Hiiop, Eve Hint, Jarõna Ilo, Sergei Isupov, Kadri Jäätma, Tiina Kaljuste, Karin Kalman, Üllo Karro, Kersti Karu, Lauri Kilusk, Milvi Korela, Jaana Kormashov, Ülli Kõiv, Kristel Kärdi, Triinu Maide-Safin, Margit Mald, Maia Noorväli, Ann Nurga, Aigi Orav, Clelia Piirsoo, Urmas Puhkan, Rave Puhm, Kadri Pärnamets, Anne Pärtna, Rita Randmaa, Ene Raud-Mägi, Sander Raudsepp, Aino Saan, Maarika Saarelaht, Kärt Seppel, Marget Tafel-Vahtra, Kattri Taklaja, Ene Tapfer, Annika Teder, Margit Terasmees, Helena Tuudelepp, Triin Türnpuu, Mart Vaarpuu and Helle Videvik.

Silent Resonance will remain open at the Ukuaru gallery until October 31.
