A-galerii opens exhibitions showcasing new possibilities in metalwork

A-galerii gallery has opened a joint exhibition by German and Czech artists in its windows and a first solo exhibition by blacksmith, designer and jewellery artist Tarvo Porroson in its safe, ERR reported.

The window exhibition, titled “Stretchings”, features works by Christoph von Rohden and Štěpán Hála made using railway tracks.

Porroson’s exhibition, “From Dust”, focuses on reuse. The jewellery by the artist, who comes from southern Estonia, is made from old files, lathe shavings, cast-iron dust and abandoned tools. Porroson said the pieces are also fully wearable.

He said he is constantly collecting waste materials and sees value even in the pile of scraps on his studio floor. He described the first jewellery pieces he made from files as part of a story about rising from the ashes, told through abandoned tools and his own experience.

Porroson added that creating art had helped him relieve tension, process his thoughts, reach new conclusions and make new decisions while focusing on technical challenges.

Porroson’s exhibition will be on display at A-galerii until September 26. The works by the German and Czech artists will remain on view until November 30.
