ERR reported that investigative television programme Pealtnägija has added former Terevisioon editor Reimo Sildvee and journalist Heliis Raudsik to its editorial team for the new season.
Speaking on Vikerraadio’s Vikerhommik, Sildvee said he had already taken part in his first shoot, which involved strong emotions and opposing views.
Compared with Terevisioon, a morning television programme where he had to cover around 10 different topics each day, Pealtnägija gives journalists more time to examine individual issues in depth, Sildvee said.
“I really like that at the moment,” he said.
Pealtnägija editor Mihkel Kärmas said the programme was also a very different kind of emergency room. The emotions accompanying the work were often intense, he said, adding that negative emotions tended to be stronger and that the team often found itself between conflicting parties.
“I do not want to discourage anyone, but you have to prepare mentally, because it is not all flowers and butterflies,” Kärmas said.
Sildvee said he was a regular Pealtnägija viewer. Although he could not say he had watched every programme from beginning to end over the past 28 years, it had never been a programme that made him think he might watch something else instead.
He did not disclose details of his first assignment, but said it concerned an intriguing story that touched many parents and children. It involved strong emotions, opposing sides and completely different understandings of the issue, which he said was at the heart of the conflict over whom to favour and whose wellbeing to prioritise.
The first programme of the new season has not yet been fully completed. Kärmas said the team had many topics, but was still deciding how to package them most effectively and interestingly for viewers.
The September 2 programme will also discuss the presidential elections taking place that day. The team must adapt to an exceptionally changeable situation because Pealtnägija is not broadcast live, Kärmas said.
