Pelgulinn history exhibition opens at Kalamaja Museum

ERR reports that an exhibition tracing the history of Tallinn’s Pelgulinn historical suburb has opened at Kalamaja Museum. “One Certain City and Refuge: The Story of Pelgulinn” explores the suburb’s past and present through stories about its people and buildings.

The exhibition covers nearly 160 years, from the arrival of the railway and the beginnings of construction to the present day. Pelgulinn’s development as a suburb was directly shaped by changes in Tallinn’s history.

Rather than providing a complete overview of Pelgulinn’s past, the exhibition aims to evoke visitors’ memories. Enlarged historical photographs and city maps help bring the past to life.

At the centre of the exhibition hall are models of Pelgulinn buildings from different periods, accompanied by stories about the houses. Together, they offer different perspectives on the development of the old suburb and the lives of its residents.

The exhibition is accompanied by a series of tours and lectures exploring different aspects of Pelgulinn. Its curator is Jaak Juske.

The exhibition will remain open until autumn 2028.
