Investigators have begun examining a Lithuania-registered helicopter that crashed into the sea near Jūrmala on Saturday, LSM reported, citing Signe Klusa, a maritime accident investigator at Latvia’s Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau.

The Konner K1-S19 helicopter was carrying only its pilot, who was not injured in the crash.

The helicopter was recovered from the sea on August 17 and taken to the bureau’s hangar for further examination. The bureau has launched a safety investigation into the aviation accident to establish its circumstances and causes.

The investigation is still at an early stage, and the bureau said it was not making assumptions about the possible causes. Information on the findings will be released as the investigation progresses.

The helicopter fell into the Gulf of Riga several hundred metres from the coast near Jūrmala on August 15. Municipal police officers rescued one person from the water, brought the person ashore and handed them over to medical staff. Rescuers searched the crash site by boat but found no spill or other people in the water.
