Authorities investigate possible arson at Milrem Robotics building

Authorities are investigating possible arson after a building used by Milrem Robotics burned in Tallinn’s Lasnamäe district, ERR reported. Prosecutors are also examining whether the fire could have been an act of sabotage.

The fire broke out overnight before Saturday on Betooni Street. A local resident reported suspicious activity near the building to the emergency centre on Saturday.

“Criminal proceedings are under way, and based on evidence collected by the Internal Security Service and the Northern Prefecture, suspects have been identified. The Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to detain them,” Chief State Prosecutor Astrid Asi said.

She said the investigation was still at an early stage and that possible motives were being examined, including whether the incident could have been an attempted act of sabotage. The extent of the damage has not yet been determined, although initial information indicates that the fire may have been deliberately set.

Internal Security Service Director General Margo Palloson said attacks against critical infrastructure were being taken seriously and urged greater attention to strengthening physical and digital security measures.

Palloson said Estonia’s security level had not changed in recent years. He added that Russia posed a long-term existential threat to Estonia, requiring the country to consider possible provocations and non-military threats.

The Northern Prefecture and the Internal Security Service are investigating the circumstances, while the State Prosecutor’s Office is directing the criminal proceedings.
