Ethics commission to investigate former tax chief’s use of VMI premises

Lithuania’s Chief Official Ethics Commission will investigate whether former State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) chief Edita Janušienė violated the public interest by allowing a fund she founded and leads to register its headquarters in VMI premises, LRT reports.

The commission said on Wednesday that it had opened an inquiry into whether Janušienė faced a conflict of interest when she signed consent on March 31 for the Charity and Support Fund for VMI Employees to register its headquarters at premises in Druskininkai managed by VMI.

Janušienė is the fund’s founder, head and member. According to the Centre of Registers, the fund was established on March 25 this year.

The fund is registered on Neravų Street, where the Druskininkai branch of VMI operates.

Janušienė led VMI from 2017 until the end of July, when her second term ended. She was succeeded by her former deputy, Martynas Endrijaitis, who is also a member of the fund.
