US arms deliveries to Estonia expected within weeks, minister says

US arms deliveries to Estonia that were temporarily halted because of the war in Iran are expected to arrive within weeks, Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur told ERR. The exception is ATACMS missiles for HIMARS launchers, which the United States is still unable to provide.

“In substance, the situation is the same. The deliveries are moving forward and, as far as I know, the issue is no longer months but weeks,” Pevkur said on Wednesday. He added that the exact delivery date would not be disclosed for security reasons.

Pevkur said in mid-July that Estonia and the United States had agreed to resume the arms deliveries and that all ordered ammunition, except ATACMS, had been released for transport. At the time, he said the various types of ammunition were expected to arrive in the coming months, depending on logistical arrangements.

There has been no change regarding ATACMS, Pevkur said. The tactical missiles, which have a range of up to 300 kilometres and are used by HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, remain on hold because there is still no resolution to the situation in Iran.

“We are moving forward with all the other deliveries, but the ATACMS missiles are on hold,” Pevkur said.

The Estonian Defence Forces have six HIMARS M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems. In April, the Centre for Defence Investment and US defence company Lockheed Martin signed a contract for three additional HIMARS launchers, which are expected to arrive in Estonia in 2027.
