Finance Ministry proposes €12.2m for Ukrainian refugees

LRT reports that the Finance Ministry has submitted a draft government resolution proposing more than €12.2 million for Lithuania’s Ministry of Social Security and Labour to cover assistance costs for Ukrainian war refugees.

The funds would come from money borrowed in the name of the state, according to the draft resolution.

Nearly €11.94 million would cover expenses incurred from April through June 2026, including various social benefits.

A further €310,000 would cover planned expenses from July 1 to September 30. The money would be used for social care for unaccompanied minors and children without parental care, social services for foreign nationals, one-off settlement allowances and compensation for children’s education.

The draft also allocates €2,800 to cover expenses incurred by the Reception and Integration Agency in integrating people relocated from Ukraine.

The funds would be distributed to municipalities under procedures set by the minister of social security and labour, with controls in place to monitor their use.
