Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally protested to Russia over cyberattacks linked to its intelligence services and other actors, the ministry announced on Tuesday.

The protest was delivered to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius, condemning Russia’s destabilising cyber activities targeting the European Union, its member states, and partners.

The ministry stated that Russia’s representative was informed of Monday’s decision by the EU to impose sanctions on nine individuals and four entities connected to malicious cyber operations carried out by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).

Lithuania also reaffirmed its commitment, alongside its partners, to identify and hold accountable those responsible for or involved in malicious cyber activities supporting Russia’s strategic interests. The protest was coordinated with the European External Action Service and EU member states.
