Lithuanian politician warns of impersonation website
Former MP and deputy chair of the Freedom Party Morgana Danielė has warned that her official website has been taken over by unknown fraudsters, LRT reports.
At first glance, the site morganadaniele.lt appears legitimate, displaying her political views, ideas, and articles. However, Danielė confirmed that the domain is no longer under her control.
She discovered that a near-identical domain was registered in the US last year, with the new site replicating her original content, possibly using artificial intelligence. The imposter site continues to operate with the original design, publishing photos and articles that do not belong to her.
Danielė expressed concern that the fraudsters could use the site to solicit donations or publish anti-state or provocative material. She reported the issue to the police, but authorities declined to open an investigation, stating that no personal data theft was evident, as using a politician’s image is not prohibited.
She has since escalated the case to the prosecutor’s office. Danielė urged the public not to transfer money through the site and to report it for removal, calling the situation “terrible” and criticising law enforcement for not taking online crimes seriously enough.
