Environment minister designate pledges adequate attention to nature conservation

Ieva Andriulaitytė, Lithuania’s minister designate for the environment, has said that nature conservation will receive due attention under her leadership, LRT reports.

Speaking in the Seimas while presenting the programme of the incoming government, Andriulaitytė said one of her first tasks will be to seek a balance between the various interests in the environmental sector. She stressed that environmental and nature conservation issues will remain among the top priorities.

“The environmental sector is very important and, in my view, one of the strategic sectors. There are certainly many challenges ahead in reconciling these interests. I am in favour of cooperation and I certainly plan to meet and talk with all stakeholders in the sector,” she said.

Andriulaitytė, an environmental specialist by background, added: “As an environmentalist, I want to assure you that environmental and nature conservation issues will be given adequate attention and importance.”

The Environment Ministry is currently led on an interim basis by Kastytis Žuromskas, delegated by the Seimas’ “Nemuno aušra” faction.
