Crowds flock to Klaipėda beaches as woman suffers heatstroke
Klaipėda’s beaches were packed with people on Saturday, with some failing to follow safety rules near the water, while others required medical assistance, reports LRT. A middle-aged woman suffered heatstroke and was treated by a medic working with rescuers before being taken home by her husband.
Aleksandras Siakki, head of Klaipėda’s rescue services, noted that air temperatures reached 26°C with a refreshing breeze. However, he highlighted persistent issues: children swimming unsupervised while parents sunbathe, beachgoers ignoring warning signs about underwater holes, and a general disregard for safe swimming practices.
“If parents come to the beach to relax, they should come without children. If they bring children, they must supervise them,” Siakki told ELTA. He advised older individuals and those with health conditions to avoid the beach between 11:00 and 17:00, as this poses health risks. He also warned against bringing pets, as they too can suffer heatstroke.
Meteorologists forecast clear and dry weather for Sunday, with temperatures ranging from 15–20°C at night to 31–36°C during the day. Monday and Tuesday will bring brief showers and thunderstorms, with temperatures remaining high, peaking at 32–37°C in some areas.
