Ethics commission to gather information on possible links between Pinskuvienė and businessman Guobys
The Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK) will collect additional information regarding potential ties between Živilė Pinskuvienė, the mayor of Širvintų district, and businessman Vilmantas Guobys, LRT reports.
Virginija Aleksejūnė, deputy chair of VTEK, told ELTA on Tuesday that the commission had decided to gather further details after receiving reports. “We will assess the information and then decide whether to launch an investigation,” she said.
Last week, the Special Investigation Service (STT) initiated a pre-trial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the purchase of an apartment in Palanga by Marija Gudonienė, the mother of Mayor Pinskuvienė and a member of the Širvintų municipal council.
A journalistic investigation by Delfi revealed that Gudonienė may have acquired the apartment in Kunigiškės at a price significantly below market value. The seller was Guobys, owner of Vilmstata, a company that had previously won public tenders worth millions in Širvintų district.
Vilmstata won a €2.4 million tender announced by Širvintų municipality, later signing additional agreements that increased the contract value to €4.6 million, according to the civic initiative Viešpirkiai.
Delfi reported that Gudonienė signed a purchase agreement in January 2024 for an apartment of over 97 square meters in Kunigiškės. The apartment’s developers were listed as Guobys, his wife, and another individual. Citing data from the Centre of Registers, the portal stated that Gudonienė paid €80,000 for the apartment, or €824 per square meter—well below the average property prices in Palanga, as advertised on listings platforms.
