Teenager sentenced to 8 years for brutal murder in Vilnius’ Žvėrynas district

Vilnius Regional Court has sentenced a minor to eight years in prison for the brutal murder of a 15-year-old in the Žvėrynas district of the capital last summer, reports LRT.

The defendant, born in 2010, was prosecuted for the especially cruel killing of another teenager of the same age. Prosecutor Vytautas Jancevičius had requested the maximum possible sentence of 10 years, as the crime was committed before the offender turned 18.

The investigation began on August 2, 2025, after a report that a 15-year-old boy had left home and not returned. Parts of the victim’s body were later found in a waste container and a nearby wooded area in Žvėrynas. The suspect, also a minor, was detained the following day.

The court heard testimony from the victim’s and the defendant’s parents, other relatives, and minors involved in the case.
