Lithuanian social democrats open to minority government or rainbow coalition
The leader of Lithuania’s Social Democratic Party (LSDP) has not ruled out either a minority government or a broader “rainbow coalition” as potential political scenarios, though he stressed no formal negotiations are currently underway.
Speaking to LRT, party chairman Mindaugas Sinkevičius said he would present a detailed assessment to LSDP members before any decisions are made. “I will provide comprehensive information and evaluations. First to party members, to our community—and if any decisions are adopted, you will learn of them, but only after the party meeting,” he stated.
Asked whether he had discussed cooperation with Prime Minister Ingrida Ruginienė or the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” party, Sinkevičius dismissed the idea of active talks. “If you greet a colleague from another party in passing and exchange a few words about the political situation, is that negotiations? That’s just sharing opinions. We’re not taking any active steps,” he clarified.
He left all options on the table, however, remarking: “I’m not ruling anything out. Life is colourful.”
