Lithuania’s top officials have marked Easter with messages of peace, resilience, and national unity, reflecting on the holiday’s significance as a time of renewal, LRT reports.

In a joint Easter greeting, President Gitanas Nausėda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė emphasized the holiday’s themes of redemption and spiritual freedom. “Illuminated by the promise of eternal life, we reflect each year on the meaning of resurrection and the roots of our ancestors’ traditions,” they stated. The couple urged Lithuanians to “elevate our souls and spiritual liberty,” celebrating victory over sin while strengthening the nation’s resilience and unity.

The president and first lady called on families to nurture future generations with “examples of spiritual strength,” hoping children would grow up in an environment of wisdom and faith. “May the rivers of life and the joy of belief flow above all hardships, may souls flourish, fortifying our homeland of Lithuania,” their message read.

Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas described Easter as a reminder of what unites people, highlighting its core themes of faith, hope, and rebirth. “Holy Easter returns us each year to what is essential—faith, hope, and the renewal of life,” he said. Olekas encouraged Lithuanians to pause, reconnect with one another, and value community, trust, and togetherness. He wished for homes filled with warmth and understanding, and for society to embrace respect and solidarity.

Prime Minister Ingrida Ruginienė echoed these sentiments, framing Easter as a symbol of light overcoming darkness. “Spring reminds us that light always returns, and rebirth follows hardship,” she said. Ruginienė stressed that this light grows strongest when shared, urging Lithuanians to prioritize compassion and collective well-being. “May we find the strength to be kind, even when it’s easier to turn away, and see each other first with our hearts,” she added.

Easter, one of Christianity’s most significant holidays, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Historically observed since apostolic times, it was first celebrated alongside Jewish Passover by early Christians.
