Fire breaks out at smokehouse in Kaunas district

Firefighters are battling a blaze at a two-storey smokehouse in Eigirgala village, Domeikava elderate, Kaunas district, Lithuania.

The State Fire and Rescue Service received the emergency call at 09:37 local time on Monday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the metal-framed building engulfed in open flames. All staff had already evacuated the premises.

Seven fire trucks and two aerial ladders have been deployed to contain the fire, which is still being extinguished. Rimvydas Paulauskas, senior specialist of the Operations Management Division, said the response force was sufficiently large given the scale of the incident.

The smokehouse is a commercial facility dedicated to meat smoking, a common food-processing practice in the region.
