Tartu’s Aparaaditehas arts quarter will host its 20th Gallery Night on November 13, with 12 exhibition spaces taking part, ERR reports. Artists’ and designers’ studios, workspaces and other businesses in the quarter will also open their doors.

Four exhibitions will open during the evening, alongside tours, workshops and music events. “The idea of Gallery Night is to bring art closer to people and make it possible to fit a gallery visit into the day — after work, late in the evening and at your own pace,” founder Stella Mõttus said. She added that visitors can talk directly with artists and enjoy the event’s lively atmosphere.

Photography will feature prominently in the exhibition openings. Redwall Gallery will present Carolina Linnamägi’s “Stories we still remember” and Kevin Loigu’s “Remember / Without memory”. Haab Gallery will show Oliver Haan’s photography exhibition “Waiting for its time”, while the Puhvet venue will open Kairo’s painting exhibition “Majamagus”.

Sõõr Lab will host a biomaterials library, and Eksperimentaaltootmine will present cymatics, the visualisation of sound and vibration. Workshops will include replacing a chair cover, decorating ceramics and trying the kintsugi repair technique. Deepdance Company’s participatory event “Body Was Here” will combine movement with experiential drawing.

At the Valge Kasvuhoone venue, DJs from Heliremondi Katsetehase will set up what they describe as Estonia’s smallest disco. “Experimental Music Vol. 4” begins at 22:00 at Eksperimentaaltootmine, featuring Non/oom and Alex Beowulf, also known as Pärtel Vissak, performing live techno on analogue synthesizers.

Many studios will remain open until 21:00. Exhibition venues have varying opening hours, and some music events will continue after 23:00.
